Internet access blocked on all devices after OS upgrade to Android 15: update to latest OS version to restore connectivity
Android
When devices are upgraded to Android 15, a known OS-level networking bug can block all internet access, leaving devices unable to reach external URLs or communicate with the Esper Console.
Why this happens
A bug introduced in certain Android 15 builds incorrectly restricts network access at the OS level. This is not a configuration error in Esper — the restriction is applied by the OS itself during the upgrade process. A subsequent OS update from your device manufacturer patches the affected networking component and restores normal connectivity.
Steps to restore internet access
- Confirm the affected devices are running Android 15. Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Device Information and check the value shown under OS Version. Only devices on Android 15 are expected to exhibit this symptom.
- Open the OS update panel for the affected group. Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Group Name] → OS Updates. Applying the update at the group level pushes it to all affected devices simultaneously, reducing manual effort.
- Apply the latest available OS update. Select the most recent update listed and confirm the deployment. Devices will download the update and reboot automatically.
- Monitor update progress. Track each device's status under Devices & Groups → [Group Name] → OS Updates → Update History. Wait until all targeted devices show a completed status before testing connectivity.
- Test internet access on an updated device. Open a browser or any network-dependent app on the device and attempt to reach an external URL. This confirms the OS-level restriction has been lifted.
Verify: Each updated device should appear as Online under Devices & Groups in the Esper Console, with no network-related alerts present, within 10 minutes of completing the reboot.
If this doesn't resolve it
If internet access remains blocked after the OS update completes, the issue may be caused by a network restriction in your applied blueprint. Check the following:
- Review active network and VPN settings: Blueprints → [Blueprint Name] → Network Settings.
- Check whether any app permission rules in the blueprint are restricting network access for system apps or the browser.
If the issue persists after reviewing your blueprint, collect a bug report from an affected device by navigating to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Bug Report → Request Bug Report, then review the logs for any NETWORK_ACCESS permission blocks or network policy denials.
Contact Esper Support and include the following:
- Device make and model
- Android 15 build number on the affected device
- The downloaded bug report
- A summary of the steps already taken
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
