When the native Android Settings app appears on a controlled home screen, users can access system-level settings that bypass your device policy — including Wi-Fi, developer options, and device reset.

Why this happens

The Android Settings app is controlled by a toggle in the Blueprint's Esper Settings section. If that toggle is enabled — either intentionally or as a Blueprint default — the app becomes visible and accessible on the home screen. Disabling it removes the app from the home screen without affecting other managed settings.

Hide the Android Settings app

1. Open the Esper Console and navigate to Blueprints.
2. Select the blueprint applied to the affected devices.
3. Inside the blueprint editor, navigate to Esper Settings.
4. Locate the Android Settings toggle and set it to Off. This removes the native Settings app from the device home screen for all devices on this blueprint.
5. Click Save, then click Publish to push the change.

Grant Bluetooth access without exposing Android Settings

If users need to pair Bluetooth peripherals (such as headphones or scanners), use the dedicated Bluetooth toggle instead of re-enabling the full Android Settings app.

1. In the same blueprint editor, navigate to Esper Settings → Customize Settings.
2. Locate the Enable Bluetooth in User Mode toggle and set it to On. This surfaces only the Bluetooth pairing interface within Esper Settings — not the full Android system settings menu.
3. Click Save, then click Publish.
4. Navigate to Devices & Groups, select the target group, and apply a Sync Blueprint action to converge the update to devices immediately.

Verify: On a test device, confirm the Android Settings app no longer appears on the home screen. If Bluetooth in User Mode was enabled, open Esper Settings on the device and confirm the Bluetooth pairing option is accessible. Both changes should reflect within 5 minutes of a successful blueprint sync.

If this doesn't resolve it

If the Android Settings app is still visible after publishing:

1. Confirm the blueprint converge completed successfully: navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Activity Feed and check that the most recent converge job shows a success status.
2. If the converge is stuck or failed, navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions and select Sync Blueprint to force a re-sync.
3. If the Enable Bluetooth in User Mode toggle is not visible under Esper Settings → Customize Settings, the device may be running an older version of the Esper Agent. Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Esper Software Updates and update the agent to the latest available version.

If the app remains visible after a confirmed successful sync, contact Esper Support and include the device serial number, Blueprint name, and a screenshot of the Activity Feed showing the converge result.
