Seamless Provisioning stalls at "failed pushing device details" and never binds: factory reset and reprovision to recover
Android
If your device stalls at the "failed pushing device details" step during Seamless provisioning and never completes binding, follow these steps to recover. This issue typically occurs when a device enters a partially onboarded state and requires a factory reset to resolve.
Before you begin
Verify that:
- Your device has a stable network connection
- You can access the physical device to perform a factory reset
- You have access to the Esper Console
- Your assigned blueprint is configured with Esper Launcher (not Android Launcher)
Step 1: Factory reset your device
- On the physical device, tap the Esper logo 3–6 times to surface the hidden reset option.
- From the prompt that appears, select the option to initiate a factory reset.
- Confirm the reset. The device will clear its local Esper identity and provisioning state.
If the 3–6 tap method does not work, consult your device manufacturer's documentation for the hardware factory reset procedure.
Step 2: Verify your device record in the Esper Console
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Devices & Groups.
- Locate your device record.
- Confirm the record is in a clean state (no stale provisioning data).
- If the record still appears corrupted, delete it and register the device again.
Step 3: Verify your Blueprint configuration
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Blueprints.
- Select the blueprint assigned to your device.
- Go to Device Settings → Launcher.
- Confirm that Esper Launcher is selected (not Android Launcher).
- If you need to change the launcher, save your changes.
Step 4: Re-initiate Seamless provisioning
- Power on your factory-reset device.
- The device will automatically boot into the Seamless provisioning flow and pull the updated configuration.
- Allow the provisioning process to complete without interruption.
Step 5: Verify successful provisioning
- In the Esper Console, navigate to Devices & Groups.
- Locate your device and confirm it shows:
- A valid Last Seen timestamp (not blank)
- A populated provisioned_on timestamp
- Your assigned blueprint showing as applied
- Test remote access by opening Remote Viewer or attempting ADB access to confirm connectivity.
If provisioning still fails
Try these additional troubleshooting steps:
- Hardware factory reset: If the 3–6 tap reset option is not available, perform a hardware factory reset using your device manufacturer's standard procedure.
-
Check the device record: Confirm that the device's
global_device_idfield has been completely cleared from your tenant. A stale value may indicate the backend record was not fully reset. - Try QR provisioning: If Seamless provisioning continues to fail, consider using QR provisioning as an alternative method to onboard your device.
Still need help?
