Apps missing from Blueprint or group — upload to App Library first
Android
When adding apps to a Blueprint or device group in the Esper Console, apps you have not yet uploaded will not appear in the app selector, making it impossible to include them in your configuration.
Why this happens
The Esper Console app selector only shows apps already present in your tenant's App Library. Until an APK is uploaded or a Managed Google Play app is approved and synced, it has no entry in the library and cannot be referenced by a Blueprint or group configuration.
Step 1: Upload your app to the App Library
- Open the Esper Console and navigate to Apps in the left sidebar.
- Click Upload App and select your APK file, or click Add App to link a Managed Google Play app. Each APK must be uploaded individually.
- Wait for the upload progress indicator to complete. Large APKs may take several minutes depending on your connection speed.
- Confirm the app now appears in the App Library with the correct package name and version number before proceeding. If the app does not appear, verify the APK is a valid Android package and is within Esper's upload size limit, then retry the upload.
Note: For Managed Google Play apps, the app must be approved in your Google Play admin console before it becomes available to add in Esper. Allow a few minutes for the approval to sync.
Step 2: Add the app to a Blueprint
- Navigate to Blueprints in the left sidebar and open an existing blueprint or create a new one.
- Scroll to the Apps section and click Add App.
- Select the app you uploaded in Step 1. If it still does not appear, refresh the page — the library list is cached on load.
- Set the install type (for example, auto-install or required) and configure any app-specific permissions.
- Save and publish the blueprint, then apply it to your target device groups. Publishing is required for changes to reach devices — saving a draft alone does not push any configuration.
Alternative: Add the app directly to a device group
- Navigate to Devices & Groups and select the target group.
- Open Group Properties → Apps and click Install App.
- Select the app from your library and confirm.
- If devices need to run multiple apps simultaneously, ensure the group is set to Multi-App Mode. Devices in Single App / Kiosk Mode will only surface one app, even if others are installed.
- Save the group configuration to push the change.
Verify
Verify: Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps for one of your target devices. Each app you added should show a status of Installed within 5–10 minutes of applying the Blueprint or group configuration. If a device is offline, the installation will complete the next time it checks in.
If this doesn't resolve it
If apps are uploaded and visible in the App Library but still do not appear in the Blueprint or group app selector, try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) or switch to a different browser to rule out a local cache issue.
If apps are added to a Blueprint but are not installing on devices, check the Activity Feed under Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Activity Feed for any installation error events and note the error codes shown.
Contact Esper Support with the following information:
- Your tenant ID
- The package name and version of the affected app
- The name of the Blueprint or group where the app is configured
- Any error codes from the Activity Feed
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
