Apps uninstalling silently from managed devices: investigate geo-availability restrictions and enforce blueprint convergence to resolve
Android
Title: Apps uninstalling silently from managed devices — enforce blueprint and check regional availabilityWhen apps disappear from managed Android devices without being explicitly removed, Google Play Services is likely uninstalling them automatically due to regional availability restrictions or because Esper's blueprint configuration is not actively enforced.
Why this happens
Google Play Services enforces app availability rules based on the device's region. If an app is not distributed by its developer for that region's Play Store, Google Play Services will remove it automatically — even if Esper or a manual process originally installed it. Separately, if Managed Google Play Services is not set to Always Apply in the blueprint, Google Play Services can override Esper's app installations without any alert.
Before you begin
Confirm whether the affected apps are available on Google Play for your devices' region. Sign in to the Play Store using a Google account set to the same region as your devices and search for the app by its package name. An app may be regionally unavailable based solely on the developer's distribution settings, regardless of whether it is legally restricted in that country. If the app is unavailable in that region, silent removal by Google Play Services will continue regardless of blueprint settings — contact the app developer to request distribution in the required region.
Steps to resolve
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Blueprint and open the blueprint applied to the affected device.
- Locate Platform Services and find the Managed Google Play Services control. Setting this to Always Apply keeps Esper in control of app installations and prevents Google Play Services from autonomously removing apps pushed by Esper.
- Set Managed Google Play Services to Always Apply.
- Save the blueprint changes.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name or Device Group] → Actions → Converge Blueprint to push the updated configuration to affected devices. This forces Esper to re-enforce all blueprint settings, including app installations, immediately rather than waiting for the next scheduled sync.
- Wait for the blueprint convergence to complete. Convergence status is visible in Devices & Groups → [Device Name] under the device summary.
- Navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Apps and confirm all expected apps show a status of Installed.
- Open the Activity Feed for the device and monitor for any new uninstall events over the next 24 hours.
If this doesn't resolve it
If apps continue to be removed after blueprint convergence, collect the following before contacting support:
- A bug report from each affected device: navigate to Devices & Groups → [Device Name] → Actions → Request Bug Report and wait for generation to complete.
- The serial numbers of all affected devices.
- The package names of all apps being uninstalled.
- The device region or locale settings.
Contact Esper Support with the above information. If there are multiple commands queued on the device, do not cancel all in-progress commands from the Esper Console — this will terminate every active action on the device, not only the one causing the issue. Describe the specific command you want stopped and Esper Support will advise on the safest approach.
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
