Kiosk Mode reverting to Multi-App — fix Blueprint and re-converge
Android
When devices are configured for Kiosk mode but revert to Multi-App mode after a sync, the Blueprint assigned to the device's group is overriding the device-level change.
Why this happens
Device mode is controlled by the Blueprint, not by settings applied directly on a device. Any manual change made at the device level is overwritten the next time the Blueprint converges. To make Kiosk mode persist, it must be set inside the Blueprint itself.
Update the Blueprint to enforce Kiosk mode
- In the Esper Console, go to Devices & Groups → Blueprints and open the blueprint linked to the affected group.
- Locate the Device Mode setting and select Kiosk.
- Under Manage Apps, confirm that your designated Kiosk application is added and selected as the Kiosk app. If it is missing, add it now — a Kiosk app must be assigned for the mode to apply correctly.
- Click Save and Publish to make the updated blueprint active.
Re-converge the affected group
- Go to Devices & Groups and select the affected group.
- Click Group Actions → Converge → Converge Immediately. This pushes the published Blueprint to every online device in the group.
- Repeat for each additional affected group.
Troubleshooting
- Devices still show Multi-App mode after converge: Go to Devices & Groups → [Group Name] → Blueprint and confirm the published blueprint containing your Kiosk setting is the one currently assigned. If a parent group's blueprint is listed instead of the one you edited, reassign the correct blueprint to the sub-group and converge again.
- Devices are offline: Offline devices do not receive converge commands. Monitor device status in Devices & Groups and re-run Converge Immediately once devices come back online.
- Kiosk application not selectable in the Blueprint: The app must be added under Manage Apps in the blueprint and approved for your tenant before it appears as a Kiosk app option. Add the app, save, and return to the Device Mode setting to assign it.
- Some devices in the group need Multi-App mode: A single Blueprint enforces one device mode across the entire group. Create a separate sub-group for each required device mode, assign the appropriate blueprint to each sub-group, then move devices into the correct sub-group and converge.
If this doesn't resolve it
If devices continue to revert to Multi-App mode after following these steps, contact Esper Support. To speed up the investigation, include the following when you reach out:
- The names of the affected groups and devices
- The name and version of the Blueprint currently assigned to the group
- Screenshots of the Device Mode setting in the Blueprint and the device detail page
- The timestamp of your most recent converge attempt, visible in the Activity Feed
Still need help?
If the steps above don't resolve the issue, submit a support ticket with your device model, Android version, Esper Agent version, and a description of what you've already tried — this helps the support team investigate without a follow-up.
